Swear ban for serial shoplifter

- By News Reporter

A FOUL-MOUTHED thief has been banned from swearing – anywhere in the UK.

Martin Ward, 47, was issued with a criminal behaviour order after admitting several shoplifting offences.

It stops him from entering several parts of Newquay in Cornwall – and also bans him from “using swear words, making threats, using physical gestures”, anywhere in the UK.

It will remain in place until February 9, 2024.

A spokesman for Newquay police said: “Martin Joseph Ward was issued with a criminal behaviour order by Cornwall Magistrates’ Court on February 9.

“The order comes afterWard committed numerous shoplifting offences in the area.”

Ward has appeared regularly before magistrates in Newquay on shoplifting charges, most recently at the end of January when he received a two-month jail sentence.

WARM winds from Spain are to spring a surprise mild weekend on the UK, say forecasters.

Brighter conditions already under way will see temperatures shoot up on Sunday, following weeks of Arctic blasts.

Chris Fawkes from BBC Weather said southerly winds will “drag up some of the warmer air from North Africa and Spain”.

Parts of eastern England will hit 17C (63F) – which is “way above average for the time of year”, he added.

As the snow melted, six flood warnings – requiring immediate action – remained in the east and north-east of England, with 66 less severe flooding alerts in place.

The Met Office warned that cold air could return later this month, with an easterly airflow potentially bringing the risk of snow showers again.

Records revealed that last month was the coldest January for 10 years in the UK, with hard frosts, sleet and snow.
