Greece to welcome Britons from May
GREECE looks increasingly likely to throw open a big welcome for pandemic-weary Britons from May.
Although Home Secretary Priti Patel insisted it was “far too early” to book a holiday abroad, reservations are flooding in.
Greece is expected to allow Britons in, with some claiming authorities there will even welcome people who have not yet been vaccinated.
Non-essential travel from most outside countries into the EU is currently strictly limited.
Under the fast-tracked plans Greece would be breaking from the European Union.
It has already forged a “vaccine bubble” agreement with Israel and Cyprus.
Antonis Sigalas, mayor of the island of Santorini, said: “We want to make it clear that everyone can visit Greece provided they show a negative Covid test and this is not just limited to those who possess a vaccine passport.
“We would not want the impression to be that only those who are vaccinated can visit Greece.”
On Monday, Boris Johnson announced that a Government taskforce will produce a report by April 12 recommending how international trips can resume for people in England.
Foreign holidays could be permitted from May 17.
The most popular destinations for this summer are beach resorts including Malaga,Alicante and Palma in Spain, Faro in Portugal, and the Greek island of Crete.
EasyJet has reported a 337 per cent boost in flight sales and a 630 per cent increase in bookings of easyJet holidays.
