Hollywood loses stone on eggs and soup diet

- By Mark Jefferies

PAUL Hollywood has shed a stone with a new diet – including home-made bread and cake.

The Bake Off star and former baker says his new regime is eggs for breakfast, plus soup and bread for tea – and no alcohol.

Last September Paul, 55, told how he had put on weight during the first lockdown.

Now it’s all change for the judge on the popular Channel 4 series, with smaller meals and the odd slice of cake as a treat.

He said: “I’ve actually lost a stone. In fact, just over.

“It’s not because of Bake Off, it’s just trying to keep a little bit fitter during lockdown because there’s nothing else to do. Baking my own bread is actually easier because you can control what goes into your food a lot more.

“I’m on about 1,100 calories a day. I drink about two litres of water as well, which makes all the difference. I haven’t had alcohol for about four months.”

Prue Leith, 81, co-judge on the Great British Bake Off, admitted she constantly talks about losing weight – and never does.

She said: “I always want to lose a stone. In fact, I don’t know a woman who doesn’t want to lose a stone, but I never manage it.”

The pair were speaking ahead of the start of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.

The opening episode features singer Alexandra Burke, comedians Rob Beckett and Tom Allen and Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley.

Paul is a huge Star Wars fan. He said: “The bonus for me is that Daisy taught me how to use a lightsaber. Not with a lightsaber, with a rolling pin!”

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer returns to Channel 4 next Tuesday.

A BOYFRIEND has denied trying to kill a £5.5million lottery winner by stabbing her in the face at their luxury home.

Stephen Gibbs, 45, will stand trial accused of the attempted murder of partner Emma Brown, 49, at their £700,000 house during lockdown.

Emma scooped the huge sum three years ago and quit her job to move into the detached cottage.

Police arrived at 10pm on Saturday January 30 and found her wounded in the plush property in Lakeside, Barry, South Wales.

She was taken to hospital where she needed surgery to repair her face.

Flooring worker Gibbs, whose address was given as the home he shared with Emma, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday via videolink from the city’s jail.

He wore a grey sweatshirt and spoke softly as he pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

Judge Daniel Williams set a threeday trial for September 13 and remanded Gibbs in custody. He told

the defendant: “You have pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. The prosecution seek a trial and that will take place on September 13.

“You must set out a defence statement setting out what your defence is to that charge.”

It is thought the couple have been together for 11 years. They previously owned a home in another part of Barry, which they rented out after Emma scooped her win.

She had been a deputy manager working for aircraft handling firm Servisair when she landed the jackpot.
