Murder detectives join hunt for Sarah

- By Michael Knowles

SCOTLAND Yard murder detectives have taken over the hunt for a woman who went missing on her way home from a pal’s house.

CCTV footage published yesterday showed Sarah Everard walking alone around half an hour after saying goodbye to her friend.

But it is not known if she completed her three-mile journey from Clapham, south London, to her Brixton home.

Search teams were photographed combing the ponds at Clapham Common on Sunday morning, where the 33-year-old is thought to have been walking before she disappeared.

Her family yesterday told how they are devastated and said it is “totally out of character for her to disappear like this”.

Scotland Yard yesterday released a fresh CCTV image – understood to have been discovered on a doorbell-type camera – which captured her walking alone nearby. It appears to suggest she walked through Clapham Common and was heading towards her home, although the force said it is unclear whether she reached her house.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, which deals with homicides and major crime, have taken over the investigation due to the “complex nature” of the case.

Scotland Yard said Sarah’s disappearance is still being treated as a missing person’s case.

Her family, who are from York, have travelled to London and are growing more concerned with each passing day.

Jane Everard, Sarah’s aunt, said yesterday: “We’re devastated.

It is so out of character for her.”
