RECORD LOSING RUN HITS KLOPP FOR SIX
LIVERPOOL 0 FULHAM 1
JURGEN KLOPP admits he has hit the lowest point of his career, with Liverpool now facing “an extreme situation”.
The defending Premier League champions lost their sixth consecutive home match yesterday as Mario Lemina’s goal secured victory for 18th-placed Fulham at Anfield. It is Liverpool’s worst run at Anfield in the club’s history. Asked if it was one of the lowest points of his managerial reign, Klopp said: “I would wish to say no but yes it is. That’s not a problem. I don’t always have to have the best times.
“This team is an extreme team. We were extremely successful and now we have an extreme situation as well – we will fight through.” The Reds are four points off a top-four place but
have played one more game than Chelsea and Tottenham and two more than Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa.
Asked about the prospect of securing a Champions League spot for next season, Klopp said: “It’s really not my concern at the moment. We cannot think about that. We have to win a football game. We have to win one football game, that would be helpful at the moment.”
But Klopp dismissed claims there is a lack of desire in his side, adding: “My boys wanted it. Believe me, they want to win games. I see how much it hurts. It’s easy to judge it that way because Fulham won, so you say they wanted it more.
“But I don’t think that’s the problem. I don’t have to stand here and say we’re fighting for this or that.” Fulham, however, did question Liverpool’s mentality after only their second ever win at Anfield. Midfielder Harrison Reed said: “We did want it more – that was evident on the pitch from the first whistle.
“We came here with confidence. The manager breathed belief into us. We talked about coming here and winning. Not getting a point.”
