Bulletproof Tom: I’m ready to rock again...at 80
SIR Tom Jones is leading the charge to save the music festival season – after saying he felt bulletproof after getting the vaccine.
The 80-year-old legend joins Liam Gallagher, Snow Patrol and Duran Duran in playing the Isle of Wight Festival this September.
Sir Tom told the Daily Express: “I was thrilled to get the invitation to perform at the festival. It’s got a great history and I’m proud to be part of the line-up this year.We are all looking forward to a magnificent time together. I can’t wait to be there with you all.”
In January Sir Tom said it was “a great feeling” to be fully vaccinated with two doses, adding: “I’m now bulletproof.”
Festival boss John Giddings announced the line-up yesterday after previously moving the festival from June.
The 2020 event was cancelled because of the pandemic. Mr Giddings said: “Tom is a gentleman and one of the old school. He can sing better than most new acts, he is extraordinary. He will turn up, sing the hits and the whole of the field will go wild.”
Also performing are David Guetta, The Script, James Arthur, Kaiser Chiefs, Primal Scream, Shed Seven and Supergrass.
Mr Giddings vowed to ensure the event was safe for all to attend. He said: “If you put 50,000 people in a field they are not all going to wear masks.
“But you can’t have vaccinations as mandatory, that will be like a police state. Instead we will have to organise a testing system.”
The Government hopes to lift all restrictions on social contact in England by June 21. Glastonbury, the UK’s biggest music festival, has been cancelled for a second year.
