Such good in tent...Max, 11, makes £366k with his year under canvas
A BOY who has spent a year sleeping in a tent for charity is ending his feat tonight by asking children around the world to join him.
Max Woosey, 11, is hoping they will take part in Max’s Big Camp Out by sleeping under canvas themselves and raising money for their own charities.
By last night the hardy boy had raised £366,000 for North Devon Hospice, which cared for pal Rick who gave him the tent.
Rick, who was 74, told him to have an adventure in it so he decided to camp for 365 nights in the garden of his home in Braunton to pay tribute to his friend and neighbour.
Max’s mum Rachael Woosey said: “I have to stop and pinch myself to take in just how big this has become. Max started out with the intention of raising a few pounds for our local hospice.
“But to mark a year in his tent he decided he’d like to raise awareness of children’s mental health.
“He knows what it’s like to be isolated from friends, not to be able to play team sports, that sort of thing, so he’s doing this for all those children who have found lockdown so tough.” Max said: “It’s amazing. Children in America, across Europe, in Asia and
Australia will get the chance to join in.”
He is being supported by his heroes, Bear Grylls and Jonny Wilkinson, who sent video messages. Max said: “I couldn’t believe it. I watch all Bear Grylls’ stuff on TV and I’ve got books about Jonny in my tent, which I read when I’m not reading the Beano.
