Record sums pour into the Post Office
SAVERS put record amounts of cash into their Post Office accounts last month.
Personal deposits totalled £1.1billion in March, beating the previous peak of £1billion in September.
The news comes as non-essential retail businesses reopen today.
Post Office cash withdrawals in March were also higher than in recent months. They are expected to increase significantly in April.
Meanwhile, business cash deposits last month were up 21 per cent on February.
The Post Office suggested this was due to firms adapting their trading models during lockdown and finding new ways to continue operating.
Martin Kearsley, banking director at the Post Office, said: “We are supporting businesses, pubs and the hospitality sector get back on its feet.”
