- By Kelly Allen

SIR Anthony Hopkins provided the Baftas shock of the night, becoming the oldest ever Leading Actor winner at 83.

He admitted he hadn’t been watching the online ceremony as he hadn’t expected to win. His performance in The Father came 24 years after his last award. Normally based in Los Angeles, Sir Anthony is on holiday in his native Wales. He said: “I never expected to get this. We’ve had our vaccinations so we’re taking a long vacation in Wales.”

Nomadland was the big winner of the night, with awards for Best Film, Leading Actress, Best Director and Cinematography.

The Baftas were held virtually for the first time, with presenters Hugh Grant, Renée Zellweger, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Tom Hiddleston at London’s Royal Albert Hall, while nominees appeared virtually.

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor added red-carpet glamour, wearing an asymmetric fishtail gown that her character Daphne would be proud of.
