Hatton happy to set a new PB

- By Neil McLeman

TYRRELL HATTON says he will return to The Masters next year with more confidence after shooting his best round at Augusta National.

The world No8 had twice missed the cut in his previous four appearances and had never broken 70. His best finish was tied 44th in 2018. But the British No1 made a run of four consecutive birdies on the back nine to card a four-under-par 68 for a one-under final total.

“I am very happy to finish off with that round – I finally broke 70 at Augusta,” said Hatton.

“It is nice to shoot a good score. I don’t feel that the golf course suits me that well but I will take confidence from that round and hopefully next year I can do a bit better.”

Paul Casey also saved his best until last with a final-round 69 for a one-over-par tally.

“It is a nice way to finish but it is frustrating,” said the world No18.

Ian Poulter opened with two birdies in his closing 70 to also finish on one over.
