Just call me Charlotte

- By Jan Disley

PRINCESS Charlotte may be fourth in line to the throne but in the classroom the birthday girl is plain Charlotte Cambridge.

Her parents are striving to give her as normal an upbringing as possible despite her full title being Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Charlotte was six yesterday and her parents issued a photo. Taken by her mother Kate, it showed her looking happy and relaxed.

Back in the classroom at Thomas’s Battersea in south London, she takes Cambridge as her surname, like her big brother George. Both are said to be doing well at the £18,195-a-year school, and do not get special treatment from staff or fellow pupils.

Their young brother Louis recently started at Willcocks Nursery, which is just a stone’s throw from the family’s home in Kensington Palace. He will be known there as Louis Cambridge. The school, which costs £2,250 a term for half a day, has an Outstanding Ofsted rating. According to its website, its main focus is on the children’s happiness.

It adds: “We feel that it is extremely important for children to enjoy their first experience of school life and that they are prepared for what comes next.

“By nurturing inquisitive minds and fostering a love of learning the children are encouraged and supported as they develop key skills that prepare them for the next stage of their developmental journey.”

Prince William similarly took the name Wales when he was at school. He and Kate are both regulars on the school run.

It is said he sometimes even joins the other mums and dads for a post-dropoff workout at the nearby Chelsea Harbour Club gym.
