Just cut the chat and get chopping
THERE is a move afoot to stop barbers and hairdressers talking while doing your hair. It’s not something I have to worry about: I do my own and if I end up talking to myself, I think of it as a “whole salon experience”, rather than a sign I’m going mad. But I remember the painful conversations from when I used to get my hair done.They usually started with the barber asking: “Having a nice time today?” Sometimes I’d be in the mood to indulge them in their chat, but mostly I didn’t bother. As a talk radio host, I felt they should be paying me if I got started. One barber has now managed to get publicity from saying no one will be allowed to speak in his shop. But I think it might be a better idea if the hairdresser asked, “talk or no talk?” That might just tempt me to grow my hair, so I could share the experience.
Let’s face it, in these unprecedented times there is quite a lot to talk about. Even when it comes to hair styles. TV’s Carol Vorderman’s is down to her waist and so are the coifs of many other ladies and gentlemen, after lockdown. I have little on top, or the sides for that matter, so it’s easy to control and I don’t have dandruff issues. So, nothing to see here. But one person who has been getting a lot of stick over his hair is Tony Blair.
Our ex-prime minister has gone all Wild West on us, looking like Buffalo Bill. I expect to see him riding a horse down Whitehall any day now. Actually, I was more surprised by how old he seems to look, with his long white locks. Tony, I may have given you a lot of flak for the job you did as prime minister, but actually, as a fan of the Western, I quite like your new look. Add a fringed buckskin jacket, Stetson and boots and you’ll really look the part. Maybe your old pal George Bush could send you the gear, from his own cowboy outfitters.
