NOW that Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds are to marry next summer, with Chequers tipped to host the wedding, will the PM try to get his official country residence as the venue on the cheap? Most voters see straight through the confected outrage his opponents affect on almost any issue, for instance about supposed national security risks caused by Johnson’s personal phone number being available online.

Far from doing him any harm, that merely plays to the bumbling image held in much wider fond regard than those who nurse an all-consuming antipathy towards him ever care to admit.
