Soak up bank holiday sun after month of downpours
AFTER weeks of downpours and gales the weather looks set to take a turn for the better – just in time for the bank holiday weekend.
London and central parts of England could see temperatures climb to as high as 73.4F (23C) on Saturday through until Monday.
The last time temperatures hit that level was on March 30, with 76.1F recorded in London.
Other parts of the South-east, Wales and the North-west are predicted to see top temperatures of around 68F.
Oli Claydon, from Office, said: “Showers the will
Met start to ease and temperatures will increase over the bank holiday.
“There’ll be highs of up to 23C for central parts of England and possibly into London.
“There is a slow progression towards warmer and drier conditions.”
Wet weather has dominated the forecast this month, with Wales recording 7.9in (200.7mm) of rain – double its monthly average.
It means Wales has had its wettest May since records began in 1862. Across the UK, it has been the 10th wettest May on record, according to Met Office figures.
Dorset, Bristol and eastern parts of Scotland have been particularly hard hit by downpours.
Yesterday the Environment Agency issued 10 flood warnings for England, including the Lower River Soar in Leicestershire and the River Tove, Northamptonshire. There is one warning in Wales, for the Lower DeeValley.
However it looks like the sunny spell this weekend could be shortlived, with forecasters warning that the showers and cooler weather could return early next week.
