ROYAL Mail delivered the highest gains of large and midcap stocks yesterday, climbing 6.6 per cent to 586.2p per share.

The group has had a strong pandemic, with its parcels business dealing with soaring volumes due to growing online shopping. Its performanc­e and share price growth left it poised for promotion back to the FTSE 100 next month.

Cineworld was the second biggest mover of the day, up 4.8 per cent to 93.9p, after it said that it had enjoyed a strong reopening weekend thanks to Peter Rabbit 2.

Just Eat Takeaway.com was the stand out FTSE stock, up 4.5 per cent to 6,471p.

Sandwich-maker Greencore was a big loser, tumbling 15.7 per cent after it posted a half-year loss due to the pandemic.

The FTSE had a disappoint­ing day, easing down 0.3 per cent to finish at 7,029.8, while the FTSE 250 was down 0.2 per cent at 22,438.9.
