Rebels face ban from Champions League
UEFA has opened the way to ban Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus from the Champions League over their involvement in the proposed European Super League.
Bosses began formal disciplinary charges against the rebels. The clubs were among the 12 ‘founding’ members of the ESL last month. But while the other nine – including the Premier League’s big six – pulled out of the project, ringleaders Real along with Barca and Juventus have refused to back down.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin plans to impose hefty punishments, including suspensions from European’s premier cup competition. UEFA said proceedings had been started against the three “for a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework”.
