PRESIDENT Biden said he has enjoyed his few days in the UK. “I don’t want to go home,” he said at one point. Hopefully, he was impressed by Cornwall – but he must have been left in no doubt about the energy and commitment of the Queen.

She is nearly 20 years older than the president but her work ethic and sense of duty are extraordinary. Only weeks after the death of her husband, the Queen is “ramping up” her summer, as an aide put it.

She greeted world leaders at the Eden Project on Friday, then attended her official birthday parade at Windsor Castle on Saturday and yesterday played host to Joe Biden and his wife Jill.

This week she is due to be at Royal Ascot and later this month will travel to Balmoral. The country might not have returned to normal but it’s business as usual for our indefatigable sovereign.
