Snapping nature saved police officer’s life
AN ex-policeman left suicidal after he defended people from a sword attacker says his life was saved by photography.
Paul Williams needed years of psychotherapy but says taking pictures of wildlife gave him hope.
The one-time soldier, from Powys, will appear on the Great British Photography Challenge on BBC Four tonight at 9pm.
Father-of-five Paul, 60, is one of seven hopefuls mentored by celebrity snapper Rankin.
Paul is also a mental health advocate and now has a degree in clinical mental health nursing. While recovering he says that he found great satisfaction in quiet landscapes, waiting to get a picture.
His book Wildlife Photography: Saving My Life One Frame At A Time is available now.
