CBI turns up heat over climate change
CBI chief Tony Danker will today warn that the world is “way off track” in tackling climate change.
The Confederation of British Industry director general is due to tell its Road to Zero conference that the UK must step up and help drive unprecedented action.
Mr Danker will warn delegates: “Tackling the planet’s crisis before it’s too late has always been a seismic challenge, demanding global cooperation on an unprecedented scale.
“The world has no room for failure. The climate crisis is worsening and currently we’re way off track.”
The Government aims to reach net zero – no more emissions than are offset – by 2050. The CBI is urging action in three areas:
It wants ministers to produce a heat and buildings strategy to deliver green buildings – particularly over the replacement of gas heating boilers; an agreed timescale for the next round of offshore wind turbines, and an electric vehicle plan by the end of the year.
