Wedding guest limits to be scrapped at last

- By Sam Lister Deputy Political Editor

COUPLES planning to get married this summer will no longer have to limit numbers to just 30.

Many brides and grooms have had to repeatedly rearrange their big day after Covid rules prevented large celebrations. But the restrictions will change on Monday to allow more friends and family to attend. Numbers will now be based on how many guests can attend a venue with social distancing in place.

One bride-to-be, known only asTess, pictured, told Boris Johnson at the Downing Street media briefing that she had postponed her ceremony twice and believed that weddings had been pushed to the “bottom of the priority list”. Mr Johnson said: “We are saying weddings can go ahead with more than 30 people from June 21, providing social distancing is observed.”
