I’ll never give up...Eriksen thanks fans after heart attack
FOOTBALL star Christian Eriksen yesterday thanked medics and fans after he collapsed on the pitch with a cardiac arrest.
The Denmark midfielder, 29, released his first statement since the shocking moment in his nation’s Euro 2020 match against Finland on Saturday, telling fans: “I will never give up.”
The former Tottenham Hotspur star is being treated in a Copenhagen hospital after falling to the ground in the match.
The father of two, who now plays for Inter Milan, said: “Thank you. I won’t give up. I feel better now. But I
want to understand what’s happened. I want to say thank you all for what you did for me.”
Eriksen required 13 minutes of CPR just before half-time and was then taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. He had received treatment on the pitch in front of his distraught girlfriend Sabrina Kvist Jensen, 28, and shocked teammates.
Denmark team doctor Martin Boesen later said Eriksen had “gone”, but they were able to bring him back.
The horrifying incident on Saturday evening was beamed around the world on live television.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy has been arrested after two people were caught on CCTV vandalising a defibrillator kit at a football club.
Buxted FC, in East Sussex, said the incident on Sunday morning was “absolutely disgusting”.
