1 in 5 have less than £100 saved

ALMOST a fifth of adults have less than £100 in savings and 13 per cent have nothing at all, a poll has found.

Yorkshire Building Society, which asked 2,000 Britons about their savings habit, said: “Our research highlights just how fragile many people’s finances are.

“It also shows the further widening of the financial wellbeing gap.”

The number of people not saving at all has risen to 21 per cent from 12 per cent in 2019.A similar proportion (20 per cent) have increased their monthly savings during the pandemic.

And 17 per cent have reduced their debts.

But 35 per cent feel the financial impact of the coronaviru­s has increased stress. More than a fifth (22 per cent) have sleepless nights due to money worries.
