Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK

WE are incredibly grateful to the 50,000 people who took the time to sign our petition.

We have heard so many powerful stories about why this was important to them. Sadly these stories are all too familiar to so many – half of us know someone living with dementia.

We are at a tipping point for research and increased, sustained funding will make all the difference in bringing about new life-changing treatments.

Last week saw the approval of the first drug for dementia in the US for a generation. We simply cannot wait another generation for the next.

The UK is a vibrant place for dementia research with many researchers working relentlessly, but there is still much work to be done.

We need to find better ways to diagnose more patients, earlier and more accurately – and to unlock strategies if we are to truly tackle dementia once and for all.

The public have made it clear this is a priority for them. Now is the time for the Government to make it their priority.
