Film: Braveheart, C5, 10pm
Packed with action, drama and romance, this 1995 historical fiction war film is not only directed and co-produced by Mel Gibson (left, centre), but he is also the movie’s main protagonist. It follows the life of Scottish warrior William Wallace who becomes the face of a rebellion against King Edward I of England. After the slaughter of his father and brother, young Wallace is taken in by his uncle, who teaches him how to use his brawn as well as his brain – which he employs to great effect years later when he leads the way for the Scots in the First War of Scottish Independence. Oscar-winning epic, starring Patrick McGoohan, Sophie Marceau and Catherine McCormack.
Music: Later... With Jools Holland, BBC2, 10pm Former Squeeze musician Jools is joined in the studio by rapper and songwriter Kano (left), fresh from his set at Glastonbury Festival’s Live at Worthy Farm Event. Kano chats to Jools about his latest projects, and chooses his favourite performances from the Later archives. The last episode in the series also includes debut appearances from Sheffield’s Rebecca Taylor, aka Self Esteem, and London’s rising contemporary soul and funk artist Joel Culpepper.
Gardening: Gardeners’ World, BBC2, 8pm
As midsummer nears, it’s the ideal time for Monty Don (above) to place succulents outside at Longmeadow, as well as planting out dahlias and tender vegetables. Carol Klein takes a trip to Trebah Garden in Cornwall, where she looks for plants which can add early summer oomph to borders. Plus, Nick Bailey visits RHS Wisley to find shrubs that can be used as alternatives to traditional box hedging.

Documentary: Unreported World, C4, 7.30pm
The brides and grooms defying the jihadist militants laying siege to the city of Maiduguri in Nigeria, spiritual home of Boko Haram – a terrorist group at the centre of an insurgency that has killed more than 36,000. With lockdowns over and the militants driven out, journalist Yousra Elbagir discovers a city intent on reclaiming the joy of weddings despite the ongoing risk of attacks. The reporter hears stories of loss, desperation and determination (featuring Fatima, right).
