McTominay: I will visualise Fergie demanding a win

- By Matthew Dunn

SCOTT McTOMINAY plans to picture an irate Sir Alex Ferguson on the touchline to make sure he is at his very best for tonight’s Auld Enemy clash.

The Manchester United midfielder feels Scotland need to show some of the same “arrogance” that made United the greatest side in the world under legend Ferguson.

McTominay, who was in the United academy during those glory years, said: “I would be lying if I said I had spoken to Sir Alex about this game – I haven’t.

“I’m sure he will be sat at home wanting us to win and expecting us to win – so I will have those thoughts in my head.

“I’ll just leave it there, imagining that he is on the sideline, making sure we win.

“You always have to have that self-belief and level of arrogance where you feel you can play and are more than suited to be playing on that stage.

“We have proved that we have that, with the journey we’ve been on to get here.We have had it tough, it has not been easy to get here and we have to enjoy the moment now.

“But we have to go out there and play.”

Scottish hopes received a massive boost yesterday when manager Steve Clarke declared Kieran Tierney fit to start at Wembley after it looked like he might miss the rest of the group games.

“He’s come through the last two days and is available,” Clarke said. “It’s good news for him, us and the Scottish supporters.”

The 57-year-old Scotland manager took no pains to hide how keen he is to beat England.

“I want Scotland to win, desperately,” Clarke said.

“I have the emotions of the head coach of Scotland. I’m proud to lead them and hopefully they can make us smile at the end of the game.”
