Royals had ‘several’ chats over skin colour
THE Royal Family had several conversations about the skin colour of Harry and Meghan’s son Archie, the couple’s biographer claims.
He says the Firm was unsympathetic to racism complaints.
Omid Scobie also suggested that Meghan, 39, would want to return to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.
Some courtiers had doubted if Meghan, who has just had daughter Lilibet, would ever come back to Britain.
Yesterday, Scobie, co-author of the book Finding Freedom about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sought to explain a discrepancy in TV interviews given by the couple to Oprah Winfrey in March.
Harry had referred to a single conversation about a baby’s skin tone early in the couple’s courtship.
Meghan suggested it took place during her first pregnancy. The author said the initial conversation developed into “a much bigger issue” and suggested the Royal Family had not condemned racism.
He added: “There was one conversation that took place that affected them massively when it came to someone within the Royal Family sharing concerns over the colour of Archie’s skin.
“To Harry, I can see how it is one conversation.” Meghan would have been involved in the followup conversations.
“There were other people...that did also speak about it, some not so sympathetically.
“So you then are in a position where you start to feel, well it’s not just this one person, it’s others as well and it becomes a much bigger issue.”
He admitted he had not verified who he thought had made the initial remark.
