WHAT: The Legoland Castle Hotel at the Windsor theme park promises families a magical ‘knight’s’ stay.

Theme park day tickets start from £29 per person, kids under 90cm go free. Pre-book tickets at legoland.co.uk. An overnight stay at Legoland Castle Hotel starts at £401 for a family of four. legolandholidays.co.uk

WHERE: Situated right on the edge of the theme park in Berkshire, two miles from Windsor town centre, the hotel is home to more than 2.1 million Lego bricks and 61 magical Wizard and Knight-themed bedrooms. EXPERIENCE: After a fuss-free, Covid-compliant check-in we were directed past a snoring dragon and a talking throne into a magical lift.

It took us to our Knight room, lavishly decorated with bunting, flags and mystical creatures – all made from Lego of course.

The separate sleeping area for our three young sons was immediately used as a play room and there was plenty for them to get on with thanks to the box of Lego blocks and PlayStation, while we had a coffee and plotted the best route across the park.

Hidden clues in the carpet and on the walls helped the boys unlock a safe in the room to get even more surprises.

We didn’t even need to turn on the flatscreen TV.

We had dinner and breakfast at the Tournament Tavern-themed restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel which wasn’t cheap but offered a surprisingly wide range of quality dishes on both the adult and kids’ menu.

The desserts were a highlight and the breakfast waffles gave the boys enough fuel for a busy day. We also used the Skyline Bar, just a short walk away in the Legoland Hotel next door, which has a play area with arcades.

Staff throughout both hotels and the theme park itself were pleasant, helpful and very aware of Covid rules which didn’t inhibit our experience.

QUIBBLES: The restaurants can get very busy so make sure you pre-book or you may find yourself queuing before you even get into the theme park.

VERDICT: Fit for a king! The Legoland Castle Hotel is an awesome place to stay if you want to turn a theme park visit into a majestic adventure. 9/10
