THE revelation that Prince Charles does not want his grandson Archie to become a prince, if true, explains a lot.

According to reports this news was broken to Harry and Meghan shortly before their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview.

It probably fired them up and led to them making all sorts of accusations.

And we now know why they were talking about Archie not having a title, alongside allegations of racism.

Technically Archie is the Earl of Dumbarton, but Harry and Meghan made it clear that they didn’t want to use that title, presumably because they expected him to be made a prince when Charles ascends the throne.

I think we can safely assume that little Lilibet won’t be made a princess either.

It’s all a terrible mess, but it doesn’t alter the fundamental problems engulfing the House of Windsor.

Wounds

New revelations by respected royal author Robert Lacey have laid bare the full extent of the rift between Harry and his brother William, as well as dad Charles.

The unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue on July 1, on what would have been her 60th birthday, should have been the perfect opportunity to heal wounds, but now it’s going to be a tense, uncomfortable event.

Charles probably won’t be there, and although the Queen has invited Harry to lunch, I can’t see peace breaking out overnight.

I’m sure Charles would love to repair his relationship with Harry and is deeply saddened that he’s not going to see much of his grandchildren, who will grow up on the West Coast with American accents.

But he has taken decisive action to ensure the future of the slimmed-down monarchy he has long advocated.
