Plea over surge in cat killer
PET lover Andy Robinson’s cat died after eating food linked to an outbreak of a rare killer condition.
Now he wants to warn others of the risks.
Andy, 55, had regularly fed Sainsbury’s Hypoallergenic dry cat food with salmon to his beloved Electra.
But a month ago the moggy had blood in her urine and went downhill before being diagnosed with feline pancytopenia and dying.
The rare condition causes cats to stop producing blood cells.
Sainsbury’s, Pets At Home and Applaws have recalled a number of foods amid fears they are linked to pancytopenia.
The Food Standards Agency has advised owners not to feed their pets the products manufactured by Fold Hill Foods after 130 cases since April.
Andy, from Foxton Locks, Leics said: “I want to make sure all cat owners are aware, so more don’t go through what I have.”
