BREXIT was only possible thanks to a dogged crusade waged by the Daily Express, and its army of patriotic readers – years before others jumped on the bandwagon.

It was the most successful campaign in newspaper history. Here we examine how the

UK is forging a prosperous new path.

COVID VACCINE Britain became the first country in the world to authorise a vaccine, thanks to Brexit. In December the UK approved the jab developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.Weeks later the AstraZenec­a jab was approved.This was only possible because the UK dropped European regulators.

TRADE DEALS A historic free trade agreement has allowed the UK to strike deals with major non-EU countries. Trade Secretary Liz Truss signed a new agreement with Japan. Next up was Australia.

FISHERIES Britain is now an independen­t coastal state outside of the Common Fisheries Policy and able to control who fishes in our waters.

BORDERS The EU’s freedom of movement laws allowed dangerous criminals to enter Britain via Europe. This is being stopped.

INVESTMENT Britain remains the most attractive European country for investment, according to a survey of global investors, ahead of Germany, France and Switzerlan­d.

London continues to be Europe’s number one destinatio­n for financial services foreign investment, followed by Stockholm and Amsterdam.

BUDGET We will no longer make colossal annual payments to the EU’s bloated budget.The membership fee is around £19billion in a year, roughly equal to £350 million a week – the figure emblazoned across the side of the redVote Leave battle bus during the EU referendum.
