Queen Elizabeth Covid outbreak

- By Ben Mitchell

THE Queen Elizabeth cruise liner has sailed into port after a number of its crew tested positive for Covid-19.

The cases were detected on the Cunard ship while she was moored off the Dorset coast. No passengers were aboard.

The liner sailed into the Queen Elizabeth II cruise terminal, at Southampton docks, yesterday morning.

A Cunard spokeswoman said: “Working with Southampton Port Health we have taken steps to successfully contain the situation and one of these actions has been to limit new crew joining the ship.”

A “staycation” cruise of the Cornwall coast, later this month, is the luxury liner’s first outing since Cunard suspended sailing on all of its ships, in March 2020, because of the pandemic.
