Watch out for lead piping in the ballroom! Cluedo house on sale
A HISTORIC home that inspired Cluedo and hosted Hollywood icons including Cary Grant, Bette Davis and Errol Flynn is for sale.
The 1943 board game featuring weapons including lead piping and a dagger was initially called MurderAt Tudor Close after the former hotel.
The Grade II Tudor building is said to have inspired the inventor of Cluedo after a 1937 refurbishment added a billiard room and ballroom.
As well as its already famous guests, a young Julie Andrews is said to have sung there while her parents worked in the hotel in Rottingdean, East Sussex. It was also the backdrop for 1949 comedy film The Adventures Of Jane.
Restored to a private home in the 1950s and with five bedrooms, it is for sale for offers over £1million.
The current owners said: “The house is ideal for entertaining – friends have loved coming for our Cluedo parties.”
The timbered house even includes a secret passage, like the game.
