There’s a lot to chew over as office workers return
WITH WORKERS returning to their offices after lockdown they will have another decision to get their teeth into: where to buy the best value “meal deal” for their lunch hour.
Sales of meal deals have already doubled as office workers pick up where they left off, but is it time to rethink your tastes?
Before lockdown, many automatically made a beeline for their local Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons or Boots, but now could be time to think afresh.
New research suggests Tesco leads the field, as its meal deal combo saves hungry workers an unbeatable £3.24 compared to buying the same items separately.
Its own-brand tuna and potato salad, Fridge Raiders southern style chicken bites and Vita Coco pressed coconut water would cost £6.24 if bought separately, but just £3 as part of a meal deal. Boots also scores well. Its Shapers Moroccan style veggie couscous salad, Shapers bacon bites and coconut water total £5.74 separately but come out at £3.39 together, saving £2.35.
By contrast, Sainsbury’s charges £3.35 if you buy its ham sandwich (no mayo), Snack a Jacks salt and vinegar snack pack and Ribena separately but £3 as a deal, saving a crummy 35p.
Dr Tom Micklewright at Push Doctor said Tesco is not just best value, it also offer the lowest caloriecontrolled option, with meal deals starting from a skinny 230 calories.
Money is not the only decision to sink your teeth into. “Workers should be choosing low-sugar options, ideally from unprocessed food sources,” Micklewright said.
Foods full of complex carbohydrates will give you more energy for the afternoon, he added.
