- By Liz Perkins

A THREE-year-old boy riding his bike on the family farm was hit and killed by a truck.

Ianto Jenkins died from suspected crush injuries when he was struck by the lorry at the dairy estate run by his dad Guto.

Guto, 31, was devastated by Tuesday evening’s tragedy in Efailwen near Clynderwen, Pembrokeshire.

His family have owned the farm for generations, with his parents running it before him.

They were being supported by police as friends rallied too.

One posted online: “I can’t imagine such an nightmare, but I can ensure that all your family, your friends, the people of Efailwen and the whole of Wales are thinking about you and the family at this dark hour in your life.

“Take comfort from the sweet memories you have and try to keep strong.”

Another said: “Absolutely heartbroken, taken way too soon. You will be missed Ianto, RIP.” Farmer and shop owner

Carwyn James said the closeknit community had been deeply affected.

He said: “It’s an amazing place to raise children on a farm, but with it there are dangers. It’s just terribly sad.”

Community

County councillor Huw George, who is also a church minister, said the village was rallying round the family.

He said: “One strong point of this community is that it’s strong, it’s close. People will be there and sense when help is needed and if people ask for help, they will get it.

“How do you begin to explain and begin to say something which means anything at a time like this?”

Police said: “An investigation into circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing and the family is being supported by specialist officers.”

The Health and Safety Excutive have been informed and an inquest is due to be opened by Pembrokeshire coroner Paul Bennett.
