- By News Reporter

SWIMMERS were warned to stay out of the sea in Bournemouth over fears of a shark sighting.

Fisherman Darron Tapper, 54, said a giant fish had pulled his rod from his hands and nearly dragged him off his kayak after he saw “a dark shadow”.

He told lifeguards at Boscombe beach who had received two other similar reports of a “large marine animal”.

Suggesting he escaped a predator, Darron said: “I don’t know what else would have the power.

“If you saw how it took my rod and reel, I didn’t stand a chance. In 13 years I have never, ever experienced that.”

RNLI lifeguards used a megaphone to warn bathers to leave the sea and put up red flags on the beach onWednesday.

However, people were soon allowed back.An RNLI spokesman said: “Lifeguards used their rescue watercraft to scan the area and visitors were able to go back into the water half an hour later.”
