BA in dyslexia discrimination claim
AN ASPIRING air stewardess sued British Airways for discrimination after blaming her poor performance at a job interview on dyslexia.
Charlotte Smith, who suffers from the condition, accused the airline of not giving her more time to prepare for face-to-face questions.
A Watford Employment Tribunal heard she struggled to answer their first question, described as “the most obvious in a job interview”: “Why would you like to be cabin crew with British Airways?” She complained she had difficulty being “put on the spot” and was at a disadvantage.
Her claim was dismissed, but she was awarded £1,000 after judges said BA had failed to make adjustments for her dyslexia in an earlier assessment.
