New house can move us to tears

- By Alice Hughes

MOVING is so traumatic for a fifth of people they swear they will never do it again.

Researchers found the top headache is setting up utilities at the new place, followed by unpacking and redirecting post.

The 2,000 recent movers quizzed also put rain on the day itself and the wait for a completion date among their biggest bugbears.

More than a third said it was the most stressful event of their lives.

Frequent other gripes included waiting for wifi to be installed – the average delay was 10 days – and moving into a filthy place.

Furniture not fitting through doors, items breaking, having no curtains at the start and the endless phone calls also featured.

Broadband provider Hyperoptic carried out the poll. It said: “It’s not only the physical moving which takes time and effort, but the mountain of admin that comes with doing so.”
