Sufferers in England lose out on MS drug

- By Hanna Geissler

PEOPLE with multiple sclerosis in England and Northern Ireland are paying up to £600 per month to access a drug that is available on the NHS in Scotland and Wales, campaigners say.

Trials show fampridine can improve walking ability in some patients.

But a decision by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) not to recommend the drug for use across the NHS has led to a postcode lottery.

Charities estimate that tens of thousands more people could benefit from fampridine.
