Tahir spins into history

-

IMRAN TAHIR took The Hundred’s first hat-trick to help Birmingham Phoenix surge to the top of the men’s table last night.

The veteran leg-spinner took 5-25 to help his side coast to a 93-run win against Welsh Fire.

It was a case of the young and old combining for the hosts at Edgbaston as teen Will Smeed, the youngest player in men’s competition, struck an unbeaten 65.

Skipper Moeen Ali hit 59 from just 28 balls to help their side post a formidable 184-5.

And the Welsh Fire were never in the hunt as they were bundled out for just 91 – with Tahir, 42, in inspired form.

Earlier Phoenix had thrashed the Fire by 10 wickets in the women’s competition.
