Rice better off staying says happy Soucek

- By Paul Brown

TOMAS SOUCEK claims Declan Rice is set to get even better at West Ham this season.

England star Rice is staying with the Hammers after the club’s £90million valuation put off Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. And his midfield partner thinks the pair can feed off each other as they gear up for Europa League football.

Soucek said: “My partnership with Declan is very good for me and I hope that we can still improve, because there is still space for improving. I am happy that he is still a young guy and a young star, and he can improve next to me and be one of the top central midfielders. I can improve next to him as well.

“We know each other so one can move and the next one can immediately fill in the space, so it is a good relationship.” They formed one of the Premier League’s most formidable midfield partnerships last season and both starred for their countries at the Euros.

Rice’s Hammers future was then put in doubt when he refused to sign a new contract and asked to be kept informed of any interest in him.
