British beaches voted shore winners
A BEACH in Yorkshire has been named one of the best in Europe.
Filey, near Scarborough, made the top 20 list alongside more glamorous locations from Crete to the Costas.
The East Coast’s five-mile stretch of sand was not the only English beach to make the list, compiled by US guide Far & Wide and based on TripAdvisor reviews.
Two Cornish resorts, St Ives and Perranporth, also got in the top 20 along with Bournemouth which achieved a notable fifth place. Top of the lot was Spiaggia dei Conigli, in Sicily, with two Spanish beaches and one in Portugal ahead of Bournemouth’s popular seafront, which was praised for its bars and restaurants close by.
Far & Wide’s guide said: “Europe has some truly stunning beaches.
“From the islands dotting the Mediterranean to the coasts of France, these beaches are the absolute best.”
