Harry and Meghan criticise the Queen
THE Duke and Duchess of Sussex have criticised the Queen’s response to their complaints – adding new fuel to their dispute with the rest of the Royal Family.
They have told biographers they are not happy that the Queen did not take “full ownership” of issues they brought up.
The couple also think little has been done since they accused the Firm of racism and of failing to support Meghan when she was feeling suicidal, according to an updated biography of the Sussexes.
Harry, 36, and Meghan, 40, specifically take issue with the Buckingham Palace statement from March this year.
In a new epilogue for biography Finding Freedom, written about the couple by journalists Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, the authors write: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment did not go unnoticed by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken.”
Following the allegations, the Duke of Cambridge defended the family while the Palace statement read: “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.
“Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.” Palace officials have meanwhile embarked on an inquiry into claims that Meghan bullied aides but have not said if or when the outcome will be made public.
The Sussexes – who quit their senior royal roles in March 2020 – are currently on paternity and maternity leave after the birth of their second child, Lilibet Diana, in June, ensconced in their £11million home in Montecito, California.
Talking to People magazine, Scobie said the Sussexes are entering “the era of visibility”, adding: “They do very well in those moments of human interaction.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment last night.
