Briton and family die on hike in gas riddle
A BRITON has died with his wife and one-year-old daughter in mysterious circumstances on a hiking trail in the US.
The bodies of Jonathan Gerrish, 45, Ellen Chung, 31, and Muji, were found with their pet dog.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is not being ruled out as investigators wore protective suits.
The family car was found at the weekend in the area known as the Devil’s Gulch in the South Fork of the Merced River in northern California.
Police deputy Kristie Mitchell said: “Coming across a scene where everyone involved, including the dog is deceased, is not a typical thing that we have seen.”
In 2013, two miners died in Colorado after exposure to carbon monoxide while 19 others fell sick. Mr Gerrish, a Google engineer, was originally from Lancaster, Lancs.
