Heart scare Gurkha back on pensions hunger strike
A GURKHA veteran demanding equal pensions had a heart scare after not eating for 11 days.
Hunger striker Dhan Bahadur Gurung emailed his family to say the message would be “his last”.
But within hours the 60-year-old of Basingstoke, Hants, was back outside Downing Street after a hospital check-up revealed no cause for concern.
Two other pensioners are also refusing food and they were joined by about 150 supporters yesterday, chanting “No justice, no peace.”
They are furious that Gurkha veterans get lower pensions than other ex-Army soldiers.
The Ministry of Defence said it wanted to ensure “the Gurkha pension scheme is sustainable and fair alongside other public-sector pensions”.
