Haiti quake victims will get UK aid
HAITI victims will soon be assisted by a specialist UK volunteer search and rescue team, which flew out to the Caribbean nation yesterday.
The charity Search And Rescue Assistance In Disasters (SARAID) mobilised a team of six volunteers, including structural engineers and paramedics, following a request from the Haitian ambassador in London.
More than 1,900 people were killed and almost 10,000 injured in Saturday’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake.
SARAID said: “The UN are reporting over 13,700 homes destroyed or damaged, around 30,000 people displaced from homes and seven hospitals damaged.”
