Bootiful game...legends’ kit set to fetch over £40k
A GOAL-DEN haul of football memorabilia is expected to fetch £40,000 at auction next week.
The boots worn by David Beckham in the FA Cup Final during Manchester United’s treble-winning season and shirts worn by Pele and George Best are the star lots.
David was just 24 when he played in the 1999 Cup Final for United against Newcastle, with the Red Devils winning 2-0.
The historic 1998-99 season saw United clinch the Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
Now, his size eight boots, created to his unique specifications and featuring elastic straps, aluminium studs and embroidered with “Beckham 7” on them, are up for sale.
They are expected to fetch between £10,000 and £15,000 when they go under
the hammer at Hansons Auctioneers, in Etwall, Derbyshire, on Tuesday.
A signed United shirt worn by David in a Champions League match against Greek side Panathinaikos on November 21, 2000, is also set for auction. The framed shirt is signed, “Best wishes, David Beckham 7”. It has a guide price of £4,000 to £6,000.
Also included in the sale are football jerseys worn by George Best and Pele.
A green Northern Ireland shirt worn by Best in a match against England in 1964 could fetch £12,000.
A white, round-neck shirt worn by Pele in the 1970s during an unknown game is expected to make between £6,000 and £8,000.
It features his signature and was one of the final jerseys worn by Pele for Brazilian side Santos.
David Wilson-Turner, head of sports memorabilia at Hansons Auctioneers, said: “Football memorabilia doesn’t get much better than this.
“They have come to auction from a private Shropshire collector who has decided the time is right to part with them.”
