10-week wait for licence

SOME motorists are facing a 10-week wait to receive their driving licences.

The Driver andVehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) said a combination of ongoing industrial action and social distancing requirements has led to “continuing delays with paper applications”.

A DVLA spokesman said: “Our online services have not been impacted by the pandemic and continue to run as normal and without any delays. The majority of transactions can be done online including renewing a driving licence.

“Paper applications are taking on average, between six and 10 weeks to process.”

Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union at DVLA offices in Swansea have been striking over safety measures after more than 500 Covid cases hit the workforce.
