Hot dogs are wurst for us
EATING a hot dog will cost you 36 minutes of “healthy” life – but swap it for a handful of nuts and you will gain an extra 26.
A study looked at 5,800 foods to work out which had the most impact on lifespan and the environment.
It found replacing just 10 per cent of foods such as processed meat daily with healthier fruit and nuts could give you an extra 48 minutes of healthy, or disease-free, life per day.
It could also reduce your carbon footprint by one third, according to University of Michigan researchers.
Prof Olivier Jolliet said “small, targeted substitutions” give “significant health and environmental benefits”.
