IT’S A GIVEN OWEN WILL SCORE
MICHAEL OWEN found the back of the net at York for the second time in less than 24 hours.
A co-owner of Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes hero Ever Given yesterday, he also celebrated victory with 16-1 shot Flaming Rib at the track on Wednesday.
Both horses are trained by Tom Dascombe in Cheshire, at stables the former Liverpool and Manchester United ace owns. After 3-1 favourite Ever Given came home a neck in front, Owen said: “I’ve had horses all my life but when you’re sharing it with mates, a few good lads, it’s particularly special.”
Cruyff Turn (28-1) ran out a shock winner of the Clipper Logistics Handicap, under an enterprising ride from David Allan. The jockey set out to make the running and conserved enough energy to nab victory from Frankie Dettori’s mount Magical Morning by a head.
Dascombe said: “What a tough horse, I’ve been quite hard on him but he’s improved with every run.
“He’s come here and really toughed it out, Danny gave him a great ride – it all panned out. I’m just lucky to train him.”
