Burrow honoured as Leeds take derby win

LEEDS great Rob Burrow was guest of honour as his old club celebrated the Headingley hero’s emotional home-coming with a victory.

Burrow, 38, received a standing ovation before kick-off. Motor neurone disease has left the former player described as ‘Superman’ confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak.

This West Yorkshire derby often struggled to compete with the pre-match emotion.

Leeds finally grabbed a 17th-minute advantage as half-back Callum McLelland broke from halfway to send skipper Ash Handley in for a try.

Will Pryce, teenage son of ex-Bradford, St Helens and Hull FC star, Leon, scored a try to level seven minutes later.

Leeds full-back Richie Myler, 31, used his experience to touch down as Giants’ defence failed to deal with Rob Lui’s grubber and Leeds led 10-4 at half-time.

Harry Newman kicked two penalties to increase the lead to 14-4 before Lui’s match-clinching try.

Leeds’ Zane Tetevano was yellow carded for a late hit before Giants’ SamWood and Owen Trout grabbed late tries.
